In advance of the All-Star Game selections on Sunday, ESPN.com surveyed 31 of ESPN’s top baseball minds to find out which American League players should start in the 80th Midsummer Classic on July 14 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. DETROIT — He won’t be a Detroit Red Wing, but Chris Chelios still wants to play. The 47-year-old defenseman said Wednesday he has no hard feelings about Detroit’s decision not to sign him for next season. In fact, he says his 10 years with the Red Wings couldn’t have turned out better. “Absolutely no regrets, ” he said. “I had the best 10 years in Detroit.” He was limited to 28 games during the 2008-09 regular season because of a broken leg suffered during an exhibition game. He played in six games during the playoffs, which Detroit lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals. Article by Associated Press June 24, 2008 To read more click here

First of many? ‘93 Penguins proved that talent, youth don’t guarantee Stanley Cup
Oh, those kids. Jordan Staal is 20, Sidney Crosby is 21, Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin are 22, Marc-Andre Fleury is 24. In another sport, they’d be called prospects. In the NHL, they’re called champions. “In a very short time period early in their career, they got a Cup,” Pittsburgh Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said. Now, how many more times can the Penguins win the Stanley Cup they lifted ahead of schedule by beating Detroit 2-1 in Game 7 on Friday? How many more titles can this team with the kid captain and its roster of 20-somethings pull off? The Penguins won the franchise’s first Stanley Cup since 1992 by beating the NHL’s most experienced and accomplished collection of winners, the Red Wings, so it’s only natural for them to assume they’ll win more in a hurry.
