During a visit to Reggie Bush’s house in Los Angeles, there was a certain piece of memorabilia that caught the eye of All-Pro running back Adrian Peterson.
Peterson has moved on to a successful career in the NFL, breaking the league record for most yards rushing in a single game and helping the Minnesota Vikings make the playoffs a year ago. He now finds himself awash in the ongoing soap opera over whether Brett Favre will come out of retirement for a second straight year and sign with Minnesota.

DETROIT — He won’t be a Detroit Red Wing, but Chris Chelios still wants to play. The 47-year-old defenseman said Wednesday he has no hard feelings about Detroit’s decision not to sign him for next season. In fact, he says his 10 years with the Red Wings couldn’t have turned out better. “Absolutely no regrets, ” he said. “I had the best 10 years in Detroit.” He was limited to 28 games during the 2008-09 regular season because of a broken leg suffered during an exhibition game. He played in six games during the playoffs, which Detroit lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals. Article by Associated Press June 24, 2008 To read more click here

Steve Yzerman, Brett Hull, Luc Robitaille and Brian Leetch are going into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
The selection committee announced on a conference call Tuesday it had elected the maximum four players this year. All were eligible for the first time. New Jersey Devils president Lou Lamoriello was elected in the builder category. Yzerman, who in summer 2006 retired after 22 seasons — all with the Detroit Red Wings — ranks sixth all-time in points with 1,755. Yzerman, named captain at age 21, won the Stanley Cup three times, and won a gold medal with Canada at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics. “Even now when I go back home in the summers, it’s really something that’s really important to Canadian hockey fans and Canadians in general that we were able to win that medal,” said Yzerman, who is currently a vice president with the Red Wings as well as executive director of Team Canada, in charge of building the men’s Olympic team for the 2010 Vancouver Games.

They are Hall of Fame names and they didn’t make the cut. The decade has been that good.
With training camps beginning next month for the final year of the decade, we thought we had sufficient evidence to determine our all-decade teams. ESPN.com tapped into the knowledge of coaches, players, scouts and other league observers to compile the squad. Criteria included statistics, impact on the player’s team, Super Bowl wins/appearances and Pro Bowl berths. It was inevitable that several superstars would be left off. Here are the 11 players who made it:

Albert Pujols comes through Kansas City once a season. The Royals wouldn’t be too disappointed if he never came back.
Pujols finished off a three-day romp in Kansas City with two homers and six RBIs, helping the St. Louis Cardinals rout the Royals 12-5 Sunday in win No. 2,500 for manager Tony La Russa. “He’s the best hitter in the game,” Royals starter Gil Meche said. Pujols made a mockery of Kansas City pitching in his return to the town where he went to high school, hitting three homers and driving in 10 runs in the Cardinals’ three-game sweep over their cross-state rivals.

Baseball Hall starts new tradition with old-timer’s game at Doubleday Field
This was a baseball game for the ages — from 90-year-old Bob Feller to 11-year-old Zach D’Errico.
The Hall of Fame began what it hopes will become a new tradition on Sunday, with five Hall of Famers and more than 20 other former major leaguers staging an old-timer’s game at Doubleday Field. “I think it’s a tradition the fans want to see, the nostalgia of the game,” said Feller, who received a warm standing ovation when he was announced and again after he walked to the dugout after facing just two batters, Hall of Famer Paul Molitor and Bobby Grich. “Baseball has a lot of history.” The Baseball Hall of Fame Classic came about to replace the annual Hall of Fame Game exhibition between major league teams. Commissioner Bud Selig said it had become too difficult to fit the extra game in to a season that already featured 162 games in 183 days.

LOS ANGELES — Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman has graduated from UCLA 21 years after starring for the Bruins.
Aikman participated in Saturday’s graduation ceremony on the Westwood campus along with 450 other graduates. He earned his sociology degree earlier this year, having left college as the No. 1 pick in the 1989 NFL draft by the Dallas Cowboys. He was mobbed with requests for pictures with his fellow graduates and received a loud cheer when his name was read while receiving his diploma.

He is Alex The Great — again.
Washington Capitals star forward Alex Ovechkin pulled off the kind of repeat the Detroit Red Wings dreamed about by snagging the Hart Trophy as NHL MVP for the second straight year Thursday night. Ovechkin also walked off with the NHL Players’ Association’s Lester B. Pearson Award, given to the most outstanding player in voting by fellow players. “What a life,” Ovechkin said after winning the Pearson for his first jackpot at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.

Players name other pitchers besides Jays ace, but no hitter other than Cards slugger
This weekend, like every weekend in the major leagues, will feature great batter-pitcher matchups, confrontations that define the one-on-one nature of the game. We’ll see Roy Oswalt against Joe Mauer, Johan Santana versus Evan Longoria, Cliff Lee versus Derrek Lee, Josh Beckett versus Chipper Jones and anyone against Albert Pujols; Sunday, Gil Meche gets him.
So we asked 10 current players, and one former player, to name the best batter-pitcher matchup in the game, the one — if they were clicking from game-to-game at home — they would immediately stop to watch. The results were surprising only because of their unanimity.

Optimism is running extremely high with the Cincinnati Bengals this offseason.
But leave it to receiver Chad Ochocinco to take the team’s optimism several notches higher. “It’s going to be a great year; we’re going to the playoffs,” Ochocinco guaranteed during Thursday’s opening of mandatory minicamp. “We’re going … We’re making progress. I mean, I see it, and I can come out on a limb and say what we’re going to do.” Ochocinco said he’s happy, his mind is clear and everything feels right with the 2009 Bengals. The former Pro Bowler spent most of the offseason working out independently in Los Angeles before joining the team and looks in great shape.
